No longer lives at the address indicated!

December 16 2014

In 2013, approximately 11% of french households have moved. Executives and young people are the most numerous. To attract them, the city, the region of destination must provide the conditions for a pleasant life.

"Go a day without return... ", sang a famous boy band of the 1990s. Change air, go to the Sun, find his native region, all pretexts are good to dream of an elsewhere that rhymes with best. Yet to take the plunge. "After a low of mobility between 1970 and 1984, the mobility rate rose gradually," observed Thomas Sigaud, sociologist, researcher at the Centre for studies on employment, author of a thesis on residential mobility related to employment *. "The French are more mobile than 25 years ago, but no more than 40 years ago," he concludes.

Respondents say majority move for personal reasons more than professional. "A check box is not enough to distinguish all the causes. "We realize that there are interlacing of reasons, and that a move, it's complicated ', argues sociologist.

History and territories
Before, the workers followed employment, either in the coalfields or a little later in the Paris region. "There are strong to bet that a man of 65 years working at Rosny in the automotive industry, have minor former parents in Lorraine", analysis M.Sigaud.

Rural exodus, industrial cycles punctuated the movement of populations in France, since the first half of the 20th century. But that was before. Now it is a total experience that engages all of our professional, personal and family life. "We hear that if people wanted good move today, there would be more unemployment, but it does not work like that," says Thomas Sigaud.

Now we are looking for the right balance that satisfies everyone. If there is a mutation, the spouse will find his account, children will be disturbed, elderly parents won't need us? So many questions that require reflection. "A move of three kilometres only enough to never again to see his friends, notes M.Sigaud. You cross them every day to the market, in your building. Now, we must anticipate, find opportunities'.

Onwards it is dying a little while but for better be reborn elsewhere or for some birth altogether. After executives, these are young people between 20 and 25 years that move the most. The first have the means to do so, the seconds begin their adult lives. They leave with their parents for studies, cross the France during their studies to change specialty.

Moves are more within the same Department in another region. The attractiveness of a city is measured using many criteria: employment, housing, cultural offer. And all have not the same power of seduction

Paris dictates its law
Toulouse, Bordeaux, Rennes topped the ranking of the favorite cities of the French in 2013 (survey Parisian Magazine *). These cities have the most important migratory balances, i.e., that they have more incoming and outgoing. "Toulouse combines all the assets," says Thomas Sigaud. A dense pool of jobs through aeronautics, defence, affordable real estate offer. Like big cities like Paris and Lyon, the pink city allows more than elsewhere in a couple of frames, to find a job for everyone.

Cherbourg in Nice diagonal, cut the France in two. Western, Southwestern, southern are acclaimed, Northern, Eastern are neglected. There are exceptions such as Nancy who has the best ratio of installation of students. Grandes écoles, lively city centre, offers cultural and sports unbeatable, all conditions are met to hold time to their studies and why not after.

In contrast, Nice, Fréjus are the cities of gold of seniors. In addition to the sweetness to live that many come to look, everything is suitable for their well-being. These cities are deploying an arsenal of doctors, masseurs, laboratories or specialized retirement homes.

The Paris region comes last in the standings but remains the hub with 550,000 people who settled between 2008 and 2013. At the same time, they are 900,000 to be gone. «Paris attracts and rejects all at once explains M.Sigaud.» It attracts young graduates, rejects young couples and again attracts experienced executives from 50-55 years. They end their career here, because it is in Paris that are management positions".

Economic dynamism requires, executives will continue to "climb to the capital. They deposit their bags as long as large companies will have their headquarters and that despite excessive rents, stress, pollution. They refer their return to the land of origin, to the roots. «The roots, it's good for trees, shade Thomas Sigaud.» Even if it may be part of a search for identity in a world that moves.

Without being a native of the city where he settled, the young graduate rarely happens in unknown terrain. There benchmarks, has studied there, still has friends on the spot. "For him, rather than roots, we can speak of homeports everywhere in France", said the sociologist.

Change to another street or you leave at the other end of the country, moving means a lot. Follow a spouse or separating, start the active life, leave it, to expand or start from scratch, there are many different realities in the simple fact packing cartons. And every move remains a cue point set on the fluctuating course of our lives.
